Giving with an Open Hand

This holiday season (should you partake), just as you are about to give  something to someone special, pause for a moment and think, hold it in your hand and close your fist…

Now consider, the fingers are pointed at you. Why?

Because this is what we are doing when we are expecting something in return. A thank you perhaps? Gratitude? Excitement? More? Expectation of return is giving with your hand closed.

But if you open your hand, you open your heart. You can give freely with no expectation of return. If the person never speaks a “thanks”, tosses the item under the car, or later says how glad they are to have gotten this glorious trinket from someone other than you, how wonderful if you don’t even notice!

How many times have the fairies left you a gift, a small stone, a feather caught in the wind, a snowflake on your nose? And never have they asked for anything in return, and I would hazard a guess at saying you have thanked them for such a very small fraction of their treasures.

Be as the fairies, and give with your hand, and heart, open.

How have you put this to work in your life and what has it done?

Wyldly,

Sunseil
